The actor who played the inept sheriff in hit TV series The Dukes Of Hazzard has settled a legal battle with Warner Bros. executives over merchandising revenue.

James Best, who played Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane in the show, sued Warner Bros. bosses back in August 2011, claiming he was owed millions of dollars from the show’s merchandise, including watches, shoes and cars bearing his likeness.

The case went to court in North Carolina this month and according to TheWrap.com, Best has now settled the matter for an undisclosed sum.

In his complaint, Best argued he was owed “an amount reasonably believed to be to be between $5 million and $25 million for the early years (of the show) alone.”

The actor cited his Dukes of Hazzard contract which entitled him to 2.5 per cent of total revenue from products bearing aspects of his likeness.
