The Sessions

A 38-year-old man who has spent most of his life in an iron lung enlists the help of a sexual surrogate in order to lose his virginity in “The Sessions,” a drama starring Oscar-nominated actor John Hawkes and inspired by the life of poet/journalist Mark O’Brien.

With the support of an unconventional priest (William H. Macy) and a devoted team of caretakers, the virginal writer hires a compassionate sex surrogate (Helen Hunt), who finds her life profoundly transformed by their tender sessions.

“The Sessions,” written and directed by Ben Lewin, is a film that will touch your heart. It will make you laugh, cry and definitely inspire you.

Hunt was nominated for an Academy Award for her role. She’s up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

10 Worst Gaming Failures Of All Time

24 Apr

Gaming is a fickle business, one with the potential for enormous financial prosperity and also cataclysmic failure, as these 10 misguided and unfortunate gaming ventures prove.

Though at present the gaming market seems to be relatively stable – the so-called “big three” are all making money, and there seemingly aren’t any nascent competitors coming out of the woodwork – these immense gaming failures, easily the most ruinous in the history of the medium, prove that even some of the world’s biggest companies are not averse to a flop.

Even if most of these failures seem obvious in hindsight, there are a few which are genuinely unfortunate – the most pronounced of which is surely pictured above – given that they sought to innovate the gaming landscape but simply could not find a market. The rest, as you’ll see, quite rightly wound up on the pyre of gaming history, to forever be ridiculed for the inept design choices they opted for.

Here are the 10 worst gaming failures of all time…

10. Sega 32X

In theory, the Sega 32X was definitely something that appealed to gamers; it deviated from the model that you’d need a whole new console every time you wanted to play better looking games, and instead involved plugging a device into your Mega Drive that would increase its longevity by at least a few more years.

However, Sega, like most companies on this list, basically ended up shooting themselves in the foot by failing to go all in, due to the prior failure of the Mega-CD, and the preparation for the impending disc-based Sega Saturn, as well as the much-criticised Neptune, which was to be a more practical combo of the Mega Drive and the 32X (though never made it to stores).

The 32X was saddled with a limited library of sub-par games, and so quickly faded into obscurity as Sega tried to wage war against the PlayStation with their Sega Saturn, a war they decisively, even humiliatingly lost as history dictates. Unfortunately, that’s not the only embarrassment Sega have to their name…

Tottenham vs Lyon – Team News, Match Preview & Likely Line-Ups

24 Apr

Friedel

  • Date: Thursday, 14th February
  • Venue: White Hart Lane
  • K/o: 20:05

Team News

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will not face his former team as Spurs host Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie.

Brad Friedel will start in goal against the French club, while Emmanuel Adebayor will lead the line up front in the absence of the injured Jermain Defoe, who misses out with an ankle injury.

Long-term absentees Sandro and Younes Kaboul remain out, but the latter should be available again for the second leg in a fortnight.

Tom Huddlestone is ruled out with a minor knee injury but new signing Lewis Holtby could start.

Lyon have no fresh injury concerns and Former AC Milan playmaker Yoann Gourcuff may start.

In-demand striker Bafetimbi Gomis may be given the nod ahead of Lisandro Lopez up front with the Frenchman racking up 16 goals so far this season.

Match Preview

Tottenham play host to Lyon tonight on the back of a 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League which provides Andre Villas-Boas and his men a fantastic opportunity to qualify for the more notable of the two European competitions – the Champions League – next season.

Lyon meanwhile are also well equipped to qualify for Europe’s top competition but trail first placed Paris St Germain by 6 points in Ligue 1. R mi Garde’s men warmed up for this encounter in the worst possible fashion however. They have just one win from their last four and come into this game after a 1-3 home defeat to Lille.

Tottenham will also be further boosted by the fact that they are unbeaten in the UEFA Europa League this season and have not lost, at home, in any competition, since Wigan beat them in a Premier League match in early November.

Former Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who joined from the French outfit last summer, will not be facing his former club for the first time with veteran American shot-stopper Brad Friedel getting the nod instead.

Likely Line-Ups

Tottenham

Friedel, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Dembele, Holtby, Bale, Dempsey, Adebayor

Lyon

Vercoutre, Reveillere, Lovren, Bisevac, Dabo, Fofana, Gonalons, Gourcuff, Grenier, Ghezzal, Gomis
