Nick Carter: ‘Drug binges left me depressed’

30 Jun

Nick Carter

Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter regrets his decade-long battle with drugs and alcohol because it led to depression, which he still has to deal with.

Now six years sober, the pop star opens up about the extent of his abuse issues in his new memoir, Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It, revealing that during the height of his problems, he took Ecstasy pills, cocaine and drank a large bottle of vodka a night.

He tells In Touch magazine, “I regret taking Ecstasy. The amount I did caused changes to my brain that are responsible for my bouts of depression now.”

Carter also details his romance with ex-girlfriend Paris Hilton in the book, and admits she was the wrong person for him at the lowest time of his life.

He adds, “(She) fed my worst impulses as far as partying.”

Special delivery for Bruno Mars as Grammy arrives in a pizza box

30 Jun

Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars’ Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance arrived at the singer’s Hollywood Hills home last month (Aug13) in a pizza box.

Sources tell Life & Style magazine the Grenade singer was stumped when the extra-large Domino’s delivery arrived at his door – because he hadn’t ordered a pizza.

A pal says, “Pizza places give tickets away for his concerts all the time, so he thought maybe someone had sent him a free pizza.

“He was really happy to finally have his Grammy because he worked so hard for it, but it also left him hungry for pizza!”

It is not clear why Grammy bosses chose to send him his official trophy in a pizza box.

Art Brut

Rockers Art Brut have announced a line-up change on the eve of their latest tour after revealing drummer Mikey Breyer and guitarist Jasper Future have retired from the group.

Blur star Graham Coxon’s guitarist Toby Macfarlaine and Stephen Gilchrist have joined the band as permanent replacements.

Frontman Eddie Argos says, “Being a classic rock band isn’t all just laps of honour round the world and photoshoots in Rolling Stone; it also involves personnel changes. So, after 10 years and eight years of playing with them respectively, we say goodbye to Mike and Jasper.

“Press releases are not the best place for fond farewells but it’s been a blast and we’ll miss them… It’s now time for Art Brut Mk III. Hello to Toby and Stephen.”

The group kicks off a British tour with the new bandmates in Manchester, England next week (24Sep13).

Boxing legend Ken Norton dies

Knight Rider

Former U.S. boxing champion Ken Norton has died. He was 70.

The heavyweight fighter passed away at a care facility in Las Vegas on Wednesday (18Sep13) following a series of strokes.

His manager Gene Kilroy says, “I’m sure he’s in heaven now with all the great fighters. I’d like to hear that conversation.”

Beginning his career in the ring during his time in the U.S. Marines, Norton began to fight professionally in 1967.

One of his most famous bouts came in 1973, when he broke Muhammad Ali’s jaw. They met again in 1976 in New York, when Ali won the heavyweight title following a controversial decision.

Norton won a title again in 1977. After he retired, he went on to make a string of film appearances, as well as cameos in TV shows such as The A-Team and Knight Rider, and worked as a fighting pundit.

Paying tribute to the late sports star, fellow former heavyweight Mike Tyson took to Twitter.com, writing, “Today a great man passed away. A legend in the boxing world and a good man. Condolences to Ken Norton’s family on this very sad day.

“Ken Norton was always nice to me even when I was just an amateur fighter. He always treated me like I was somebody. Remarkable man.”

Norton is survived by his five children.

‘Stand Your Ground’ Florida Boycott List Naming Rihanna, Kanye West, Jay Z Refuted

28 Jun

Stevie Wonder might be the only man who’s still boycotting Florida after all.

As Celebuzz previously reported, American Urban Radio Network White House correspondent April Ryan leaked a list of A-list musicians – including Rihanna, Kanye West and Madonna – allegedly boycotting the sunshine State in protest of its “Stand Your Ground” law in the wake of George Zimmerman‘s acquittal for the 2012 killing of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin.

On Tuesday, Ryan updated her original story saying “several representatives of the artists named who say, on behalf of their clients, they are uncomfortable being identified on that list,” refuting the claims that the named celebrities are stopping their performances in Florida.

“The list including her name was surprising,” a source close to Alicia Keys, whose name was also on the roster, told us. “We are not aware of any boycott.”

In similar fashion, listed artists Jay Z and Timberlake are still slated to perform at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium on August 13.

Celebuzz has reached out to all the named musicians for comments and is currently awaiting for replies.

Realty Byte: Ryan Serhant Takes A Tour Inside Christina Aguilera’s $10M Beverly Hills Mansion

28 Jun

What do a Grammy-winning diva and a tiger-blooded warlock have in common? A swanky zip code.

Christina Aguilera just splashed out some serious dough for a home in the 90210 nabe right next to non-other than “winner” Charlie Sheen himself. But don’t worry, this isn’t (another) celebrity cry for help, it just so happens that Xtina’s new $10.75M Beverly Hills mansion (she used her power of persuasion and negotiation to knock off $750k) is near some big names like Sheen, Paris Hilton, and guitar legend Slash.

The exclusive gated community known as Mulholland Estates is a popular spot for some pricey pads, with its state-of-the-art security systems and ultra-secluded privacy. And the home itself is just as glam as one would expect from the over-the-top songstress. Coming in at over 11,000 square-feet, the massive Mediterranean digs come with 6 bedrooms and 9 baths and sit on a jaw-dropping 36,414-square feet of land (that leaves over 25,000 square-feet alone for outside entertaining).

Designed by Hablinski Manion, the grander-than-life abode with exposed beam ceilings, formal living and dining room, wood paneled library, 2 bars, screening room (so Paris can come over to watch some of her memorable music videos), gourmet kitchen, and enclosed loggia (basically a really fancy walkway). Upstairs is just as posh with a master suite and fireplace, office, large terrace (with yet another fireplace), and spa.

Outside, the newly-svelte platinum blonde can take a dip with her beau Matt Rutler in the saltwater pool and kick up her Louboutins in the bath house and gazebo.

Aside from all of these awesome too-good-to-be-true amenities, the manse is pretty much foolproof when it comes to paps and party crashers trying to live it up in style with her infamous neighbors.

Where can we get an invite to the block party?

Let Ryan take you on a tour of Christina’s new digs in the Realty Byte video above.

Amanda Bynes’ Parents Visit Her at Hospital During Her Psychiatric Hold

27 Jun

A day after being placed on psychiatric hold, Amanda Bynes got a bid of support from family.

The troubled actress’ parents, mother Lynn Organ and father Rick Bynes, paid a visit to their daughter Tuesday at the medical facility in Los Angeles, Calif., where she is being held for for mental evaluation after allegedly starting a fire in a driveway of Thousand Oaks residential neighborhood.

Ventura County sheriff’s deputies detained Bynes, 27, Monday on an 5150 hold, which under California medical code, is applicable when “any person, as a result of mental disorder, is a danger to others, or to himself or herself, or gravely disabled.” Though said hold typically last up to 72 hours, authorities could seek extend it for up to two weeks if they can show she is a danger to herself, according to the L.A. Times.

Bynes has long had a volatile relationship with her parents: In her late teens, she sought to legally emancipate herself from them before withdrawing her petition. Throughout her recent months of bizarre behavior and trouble with the law, the former Nickelodeon star has claimed that she is not in contact with her parents. “I don’t speak to my parents anymore,” she tweeted in April. “They don’t talk to reporters on my behalf.”

While she wasn’t charge for the fire incident, Bynes is still facing several legal woes. She faces charges of reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana following her May arrest, when she reportedly tossed a bong from her Manhattan apartment. After a court date earlier this month, the former Nickelodeon star has another hearing set for Sept. 26.

The actress also has a DUI case pending in California, was sentenced to three years’ probation in May for driving with a suspended license in May, and had two separate hit-and-run charges against her dismissed in late 2012.
