Miley Cyrus Says Music Is Her Boyfriend

Miley Cyrus doesn’t mind being single these days … because music is her sweetheart.

“I need to treat my music like a relationship – give it my time and all the attention it deserves – that’s my main love right now,” the singer, 20, tells December’s Cosmopolitan, on sale Nov. 5.

“This is the best time of my life. I’m not going to look back on it and be like, ‘I wish I hadn’t been dwelling over a breakup,’ you know?” she says of her split with Liam Hemsworth.

And Cyrus is finding support from fellow musicians Kanye West and Katy Perry, whom she says can understand her experience when very few can.

“The support of other artists is important because there are not many people who can relate to what I’m going through right now. Kanye West is one of those people, and even Katy Perry has been so cool,” she says.

“It’s easy for Kanye to support me because we’re totally separate lanes of competition, but for Katy to say that she appreciates what I’m really doing for the pop industry, that keeps you going. And I mean, who cares what the media buzz is if Kanye West is telling you that you’re the s—?

“Even people who want to hate on me, they can’t even shut down the fact that I’m literally what everyone is talking about,” Cyrus says.

Double Take: Is Sienna Miller Strolling with David Beckham?

No, that’s not David Beckham pushing Sienna Miller’s daughter, Marlowe, around in a stroller. But it sure could be!

Miller, 31, was spotted sipping a coffee at a playground in Berlin Saturday with her 15-month-old daughter (with actor Tom Sturridge, 27) and a man who bears a striking resemblance to the soccer star.

The actress is in Germany to begin filming the new Vince Vaughn comedy Business Trip, about a struggling businessman who takes his team on a cross-country journey to win a contract.

Wonder how many double-takes onlookers did to see the actress with a man who appeared to be Becks …

Jennifer Lawrence Says She’s ‘Kind of Going Through a Meltdown’ Over Being Famous

Jennifer Lawrence graces the coveted September cover of Vogue, and the accompanying interview is typically Jennifer Lawrence. It’s filled with run-offs and asides and more quirks than Silver Linings Playbook, for which she won an Oscar in February.

But midway through the article, the interview takes a bit of a serious, somewhat surprising, turn as the 23-year-old explains how she’s struggling with her new-found level of fame.

“I teeter on seeming ungrateful when I talk about this,” she says after a restaurant patron blatantly takes a photo of her, “but I’m kind of going through a meltdown about it lately. All of a sudden the entire world feels entitled to know everything about me, including what I’m doing on my weekends when I’m spending time with my nephew. And I don’t have the right to say, ‘I’m with my family.'”

She continues:

If I were just your average 23-year-old girl, and I called the police to say that there were strange men sleeping on my lawn and following me to Starbucks, they would leap into action. But because I am a famous person, well, sorry, ma’am, there’s nothing we can do. It makes no sense … I am just not OK with it. It’s as simple as that. I am just a normal girl and a human being, and I haven’t been in this long enough to feel like this is my new normal. I’m not going to find peace with it.

For a brief moment, you get that panicky feeling inside of you, like, “Oh God, Katniss is totally six months away from throwing bongs out of her apartment window.”

But by page six, the article – and Lawrence – return to its roots.

Suddenly, her assistant and best friend of four years, Justine, walks in. She’s just come back from having lunch with an ex-boyfriend, and they parse the meaning of every exchange. Then Lawrence gives her friend the once-over and says, “P.S. Perfect outfit. And your butt looks great in that skirt.”

Charlize Theron Rings Her 38th Birthday in a Bikini

Aloha, 38!

Charlize Theron celebrated her 38th birthday last week by whisking her 17-month-old son Jackson and mother Gerda Maritz away to Hawaii for a family vacation.

There, Theron slipped into bikinis for fun-filled days in the sun, splashing around with her baby boy – who was adorably water-ready in wetsuit and vest – in the hotel pool.

The Hawaiian getaway caps off a few weeks globetrotting for Theron. First, the actress – who is a United Nations Messenger of Peace – traveled to her native South Africa to meet with the president, Jacob Zuma, to discuss AIDS education.Then it was off to Rome, Italy, for some early birthday celebrations, which included cake and champagne with friends at the charming celebrity-favorite eatery, Antica Pesa.Scroll through the gallery above to see more of her time in Hawaii.

This issue is entitled “Ours is but to do and die” and paraphrases the poem ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade,’ which praises the bravery and nobility of soldiers during a war but does not shy away from the consequences noting in its closing paragraph that not all who venture into battle will return. It is as close to a perfect description of the events in this issue as you could find.

The issue starts with a disorientating opening as Flynn, last seen facing down two T-rex’s (rexi?), stirs to find himself and Greta being rescued by Ishi and Noble. This is very surprising considering he was killed in the previous issue! Channelling Monty Python, he dismisses it as but a flesh wound. Although a significant upgrade from dead, Noble is still in pretty bad shape as a result of his confrontation with Toht.

There isn’t much time for our heroes to reacquaint as they find themselves commandeering a German sub as Moss returns, assisting with another of Flynn’s quips “dead Nazis.” The interior of the sub is illuminated with a glorious shade of red, adding to the claustrophobia of the scene. Jordie Bellaire has been an invaluable addition for Mooney as she is one of the few colourists able to understand how important the lighting of a scene is to the feel of a book. She is very much the cinematographer of Half Past Danger. Bellaire seems to be finally getting the mainstream recognition she deserves and this month alone she can be found in DC, Marvel and IDW titles. Most impressively she, along with Declan Shalvey, has jumpstarted a Deadpool series that had become extremely stale.

With his main characters in such close confines, Mooney is able to litter the scenes with his spiky humoured dialogue and wonderfully subtle sight gags. Ishi’s eyes widening when he finds himself forcibly thanked by Noble who also removes Flynn from his Han Soloesqe attempts at communicating with the enemy by launching him out of the panel. The scene also contains a number of blink and you will miss ’em moments of tenderness. Flynn and Nobles reassuring “glad to see you back” smile to each other is a wonderfully executed bromance moment. Also Noble, placing his hand on Elizabeth’s shoulder with Flynn in the background facing away from the couple, is a great contrast to a similar moment earlier in the series where he looked on in jealously and sadness.

The mismatched quartet soon find themselves in a wonderfully tense shootout with a German submarine, each character’s emotions and fears are pitched perfectly throughout the scene. Most memorably in a striking panel showing a close up of Moss’s face, a single bead of sweat betraying the steely focus in her eyes. Having survived the game of torpedo chicken, the group board the German warship determined to stop the deadly cargo reaching its destination. Once boarded, Flynn finds himself frustrated as he starts to lose control of the group as they begin an all out assault on the Germans. Flynn gets his hero moment as he kicks in the door to the ships control room and cooly dispatches a guard before again finding himself face to face with the series big bad, Toht. Toht, who could so easily have been a clich d Nazi bastard, much like his name sake from Indiana Jones we see in most depictions, is instead a very intelligent shrewd operator. He seems to always be in control of the situation no matter how much it seems like he has finally surrendered the upper hand.

When it finally looks like Flynn has gotten his man, Mooney turns the tables in a wonderful triple bluff sequence framing both the panels and the dialogue to appear that at first Noble, then Greta is the groups Judas before finally revealing it is in fact the group’s leader Moss who has turned!!! The timing and execution of this twist was exquisitely handled at various points in the story. Mooney has thrown out red herrings about a traitor within the group, turning the finger of suspicion on Moss, Ishi and with his miraculous return from the grave, I was convinced that Noble was going to be the one not to live up to his name. But no, I should have stuck with Magneto’s motto of “never trust a beautiful woman.” The moment itself is wonderfully drawn, Noble’s face giving a hint of a smirk, veins bursting from his arms, every inch the confident superman as he thinks Moss has given them the upper hand. And then immediately following the reveal looks smaller, his eyes alone convey the sadness of Elizabeth’s betrayal. And with that head spinning moment issue 5 of the series draws its close.

By the end the group is now fractured. Moss has revealed her true colours and with just one issue to go, this series could really go anywhere. Noble is near death, their commander has betrayed them and the hero is a hostage. This issue definitely felt like Mooney’s ‘Empire Strikes Back’ moment as he shatters the core group of characters to their core. Flynn has already lost one squad and is now in the midst of losing another. Will this be the tipping point that finally knocks Flynn over the edge or will it be as the poem says “Storm’d at with shot and shell, While horse and hero fell, They that had fought so well, Came thro’ the jaws of Death, Back from the mouth of Hell.”

The series has been an unashamed joy to read. It doesn’t try to be a none more dark story that seems to be the default for many titles. Half Past Danger is pure fun and excitement, packed with great action and interesting characters. It’s the film ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ should have been. Despite being, or perhaps because of being a first time writer, Mooney brings a swagger, confidence and humour to his creation that is missing from a lot of the big two’s larger titles. As excited as I am for the series to reach its conclusion I am quite sad at the thoughts of one of the freshest and most exciting title in years come to a close. This is the first issue that Mooney had completed after the initial release of the title so it is interesting to see the evolution of both his artwork and dialogue. He seems to be placing more trust in his reader’s ability to pick up plot turns and character traits through subtle imagery in his drawing as opposed to dialogue heavy exposition which, was most prevalent in Issue Two. As a result of this the pacing of the story is beat perfect, flowing at a fast moving, exciting pace. Mooney has laid down a huge marker with Half Past Danger and one gets the feeling he won’t be short of offers when the series ends. He has firmly established himself as a unique and exciting voice, not just in Irish comics but in the US as well were Half Past Danger is also selling well. I hope the bright lights of bigger titles don’t darken his storytelling ability. But if Half Past Danger has thought us one thing, it’s never count out an Irishman.

A Miserabilist’s Guide To TV Property Shows

There is a terrible plague affecting modern society. I’m not talking about war, or famine or even global warming. This affliction began in the murky depths of daytime telly and has crawled, oozing, into the evening and weekend schedules like some monstrous new species. I am referring, of course, to the not-so-new breed of TV property programs.

As the economy continues to stumble and the housing market wheezes its way to recovery, it seems an inverse trend is taking place. Alongside the increasing inability for most decent and hardworking Britons to actually be able to buy or indeed build a place to live, there appears to be a growing propensity for TV toffs to tell us all about the joys of doing exactly that! The inner grump in me is compelled to combat this tide of insanity by taking hapless viewers on a bitter tour of the property program world, just to achieve some semblance of balance on the issue.

Kirstie & Phil’s Evil Empire

We’ll start with Kirstie and Phil. The undisputed tyrants of property programming, their empire spreads far across the land. Joining forces for Location, Location, Location, they occasionally take time off to boss people individually inside and outside the properties they already have, as well as the ones they want to buy, with shows like Phil Spencer: Secret Agent and the terrifying Kirstie’s Handmade Britain. (Personally, I suspect the latter could be some sort of smokescreen for Kirstie’s plans to open a full time orphan sweatshop with her ill-gotten millions). The duo’s brand of humour, emulating an arsey married couple who jibe constantly at one another in barely concealed contempt, is almost embarrassing to watch. The only respite these two get from bickering is in sniping at the optimism of would-be buyers for daring to hope for a two-bed terrace priced at less than half a million within the smoggy corridors of Greater London. Fat chance.

Kevin McCloud’s ASSpirationalism

Moving swiftly on to Kevin McCloud, the smug and airy face of TV’s middle-class-only-zone. Grand Designs is an hour of your life you will never get back as you marvel enviously at the seemingly effortless procurement of rural beauty spots for the purpose of erecting different shaped boxes made out of Swedish wood and Russian glass. Where else in real life can you find actual non-fictional people who like to have a bath in entirely transparent outbuildings powered by eucalyptus flavoured steam generators? And the apple-cheeked, braying Yuppies who wish such monstrosities upon our beloved countryside always say they’ve run out of money about three-quarters of the way through, yet somehow manage to finish the project. They haven’t run out of cash, this is a blatant lie to make you feel better about being poor and them seem more humanoid. It’s frankly ridiculous.

The Worst of the Rest

Homes Under the Hammer sells us the unlikely utopia of housing development when most of our own walls are falling down around us, Sarah Beeny’s Restoration Nightmare creates a window into the stately homes we’ll never own, let alone go to ruin. The Restoration Man, The Home Show and the everlasting A Place in the Sun: Home or Away. It’s a miracle there’s anything else on the box at all! All these programmes really do is show us what the haves have got and what the have-nots haven’t. Put down the remote, get yourself outside and pitch a tent for the weekend. It’s the only way to get out of the TV property plague for a breath of fresh air.

Real Madrid Announce Stadium Development Plans

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has revealed plans to redevelop the Santiago Bernabeu, a move which will cost 340 million.

Despite splashing out on world-record signing Gareth Bale for just short of the 100 million mark, Perez has claimed the club are ready to spend another 340 million in an attempt to improve the club’s legendary home stadium.

Perez said: “The redevelopment will cost between 300m and 400m.”

“The winning project will be awarded in the next few weeks.”

The Bernabeu which currently holds over 85,000 fans is now set to be upgraded further; as yet no figures of seat numbers have been revealed.

The report suggests that Perez is keen to ensure all fans are seated under a roof which could indicate as well as more seats being added; a roof could also be part of the development, although I would think this would be very unlikely.

Madrid’s home ground is third in the list of the largest stadiums in Europe, just behind the Nou Camp and Wembley.
