Naturally, she also got to grace their cover:
It’s been a while since Katy Perry made her became a worldwide success with her album “Teenage Dream” but she has continuously remained at the top of the charts. And for that, Billboard magazine has named the bubblegum pop star “Woman of the Year” for 2012 and decided to honor her at their event in New York last November 30.
The title was previously given to Taylor Swift last year, to Fergie in 2010 and to Beyonce in 2009.
In an interview with the magazine, Katy admitted that she was surprised with the title. She said:
“I’d thought my year was over, that it was time to pass the baton. But I guess I get to hold onto it until the end of the year. It’s truly a lovely compliment.”
But owning up to the title is more than just being a big-selling artist. Perry proved this when she said at the Billboard event:
“I am not a feminist, but I do believe in the strength of women.”
“I don’t really like to call myself a role model for my fans. I hope that I am an inspiration for them, especially young women. My mantra, especially for the [‘Part Of Me’] film, was: If you believe in yourself, you can be anything.”
You deserve it, Katy!
