Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington dethroned Hugh Jackman this weekend as 2 Guns grossed some $27.4 million at the box office.
Wolverine moved to second place with $21.7 million.
In third place was The Smurfs 2, which took in $18.2 million, bringing its five-day total to $27.3 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The oh-so-scary The Conjuring and those minions from Despicable Me 2 round out the top five, with a respective $13.7 million and $10.4 million in ticket sales.
“Most of the movie was improvised,” Wahlberg told Celebuzz at the 2 Guns premiere in New York City earlier in the week.
“No discredit to the writer, he did a great job and we had a great piece of material to work from. But in a situation like that, you’re constantly playing and throwing curve-balls at each other. It just heightens the material.”
On deck for this week: Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Matt Damon‘s Elysium, We’re the Millers and Disney’s Planes.
