Prince William On His Son: ‘We’re Still Working On A Name’

12 May

A day after giving birth to her son, the Duchess of Cambridge left St. Mary’s Hospital in London alongside Prince William and the heir, bundled in a blanket.

Just like his parents did in 1982, William showed his family off briefly before they left in a car for Kensington Palace.

Earlier, both sets of grandparents popped over to the Lindo wing for a visit. Carole Middleton gushed about her grandson, calling him “absolutely beautiful,” and telling the press that the first cuddle was amazing, according to the BBC‘s Peter Hunt.

The Prince of Wales was equally as delighted about his son’s new child, hinting to the press that all three would be out soon enough.

“Wait and see, you’ll see in a minute,” Prince Charles told reporters when he left.

Hospital staff joined the crowds behind barricades before William and Catherine came out to answer a few questions. Catherine was visibly moved by the outpouring of excitement. Her Royal Highness appeared to fight back tears as people cheered on her new family.

William told members of the press that he and his wife were “still working on a name,” while he held his son.

“He’s got her looks,” William said endearingly, and noted that he had “a good pair of lungs on him, that’s for sure.”

“I’ll remind him of his tardiness when he gets older,” William joked, acknowledging that Baby Cambridge was a wee bit overdue.

Afterwards, Will snapped his son in the carseat then hopped in the driver’s seat of a Range Rover en route to Kensington Palace.

It’s A Boy For Prince William And Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton Is Pregnant! ***FILE PHOTOS***

After hours of labor, the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a baby boy, born at 4:24 GBT on July 22nd, 2013. The heir to the British throne weighs a hefty 8 lbs, 6 oz.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & families have been told and are delighted,” Clarence House tweeted. “Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight.”

Prince William was present for the birth of his son, just as Charles was in 1982 and 1984. He will spend the night with his wife and son.

The Prince of Wales spoke of his elation at becoming a first time grandfather, according to CNN‘s Max Foster.

“Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild,” Prince Charles said. “It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.

“Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months,” he added.

The baby follows Charles and William in the line of succession, respectively.

Sky News royal correspondent Paul Harrison reports that Catherine did not have a c-section. The Sun tweeted that Dr. Marcus Setchell (who led the delivery team) said to members of the press that baby was “wonderful” and “beautiful.”

As soon as HRH was born, Kensington Palace sent a press release to members of the media. This was a last minute addition to the planned modes of announcement, which include a declaration posted to Buckingham Palace’s gates, and a notification via social media.

As planned, medical staff signed a bulletin containing the baby’s gender, weight and other information (no, not a name). A press officer then brought the notice down to a waiting car, where it was escorted to Buckingham Palace. And, in the grand tradition of pomp and circumstance, said notice was posted on a wooden easel by the gates for all to see.

This has been tradition for the announcement of royal babies including Prince Harry, Prince Edward, Prince Charles and Peter Phillips.

Tweets went up ahead of the Buckingham Palace declaration, despite confirmations to the contrary. Tomorrow, a 41-gun salute will go off in Green Park, followed by a 62-gun salute at the Tower of London.

Baby and mother are said to be doing splendidly (I sounded very British there, didn’t I?).

Journey To Royal Baby: Kate Middleton And Prince William’s Couple Timeline

Kate Middleton and Prince William have hit yet another milestone in their fairytale relationship.

On July 22, the husband-and-wife duo welcomed a healthy 8 lbs, 6 oz baby boy at the Lindo Wing of London’s St. Mary’s Hospital on 4:24 PM GBT, the same place where the royal baby’s father was born just 31 years ago.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & families have been told and are delighted,” the official office for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Clarence House, tweeted. “Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight.”

Like all the residents in the Commonwealth, William’s dad Prince Charles – a first-time grandfather – was thrilled by the birth announcement.

“Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild,” he told the press. “It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.”

“Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months,” he added.

The royal couple first announced that they were expecting their first child together in December 2012. They are expected to make their first post-birth appearance in the coming week.

Throwback Thursday: Prince William Is Born Inside St. Mary’s Lindo Wing

1 Aug

Just as they are doing today, reporters waited outside St. Mary’s Lindo wing in 1982 to capture the excitement surrounding Prince William‘s birth.

On June 21st of that year, the United Kingdom welcomed its newest heir to the throne. The newborn weighed 7 lbs, 1/2 oz, and was visited by family on both sides, including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Diana’s parents, Frances Shand-Kydd and Earl Spencer.

About a week after his birth, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis’ name was released, and on August 4th he was baptized in Buckingham Palace’s Music Room.

After his son’s birth, Prince Charles joked to the press that William had “the good fortune” not to resemble him.

When William’s own child is born, he will follow royal protocol and first inform the Queen before anyone else. A 41-gun salute will go off in Hyde Park to mark the heir’s birth, as a declaration containing Baby Cambridge’s information will be posted outside the palace.

Pregnant Kate Bikini Photos Are Riling the Royals

8 Apr

Another royal photo flap is brewing.

This time it’s over pictures of a pregnant Kate in a bikini.

The Duchess of Cambridge was vacationing with husband Prince William and her family on the private island of Mustique last week when the long-lens shots were taken.

“We are disappointed that photographs of the Duke and Duchess on a private holiday look likely to be published overseas,” a spokesman for the couple at St. James’s Palace tells PEOPLE. “This is a clear breach of the couple’s right to privacy.”

The photos – Kate and William walking arm-in-arm on the beach in their swimwear as well as the bikini-clad duchess frolicking in the surf – are published in Chi magazine this week as well as expected in a U.S. tabloid. Six months ago, Chi printed photos of Kate sunbathing topless in France while the couple were on their tour of South East Asia. French magazine Closer also ran those images.
