Rebecca Romijn Reveals the Real Reason Her Twins Love Airports

With mom away, Rebecca Romijn‘s twins get plenty of time to play – in the airport bathrooms.

As the actress spends her time on location in Vancouver for King and Maxwell, husband Jerry O’Connell has been busy bringing the couple’s 4 -year-old daughters back and forth from Los Angeles to the Canadian locale.

Fortunately, Charlie and Dolly have found that arriving to their final destination is only half the fun.

“They love visiting airport bathrooms, which we all have to do together – three people in a bathroom is no joke,” Romijn, 40, tells PEOPLE.

“They love going on the airplane so that’s all they really care about.”

But while Charlie and Dolly have become champion fliers, keeping quiet on Romijn’s set doesn’t resonate well with the pair. “Everybody else thinks it’s hilarious and adorable when they visit. It just stresses the parents out relentlessly so they don’t come to set that often,” she says.

Getting the girls used to globetrotting with their actor parents is a priority for the couple as Romijn and O’Connell continue to pursue their onscreen careers. “We figure that if we’re going to be doing this for awhile, we may as well break them in while they’re young,” she says. “They seem to be adapting pretty well to the whole thing.”

Eventually, however, time spent perusing public restrooms will become few and far between when the twins trade in their travels for school books. “They’re going to start kindergarten soon [and] once they’re in real school I guess we’re going to have to pick a spot and stay there, but for now it’s working out,” Romijn says.

With funnyman O’Connell for a father, both girls have naturally inherited a “great sense of humor.” But it’s her daughter Charlie’s curious questions that have Romijn switching from a smile to a straight face.

“A couple of years ago [she started asking], ‘Mom, are you happy?’ – like 50 times a day – which is such a crazy question to get 50 times a day,” she says.

“Depending on how your day is going you answer that question a little bit differently to the point where you’re like, ‘Stop asking me that! That’s a totally annoying question!’ If you have anything on your face besides a smile, they want to make sure you’re okay.”

More recently, the tenacious twins have taken a turn with their slew of inquiries. “Now they ask me if I’m old and they ask Jerry – especially when he’s not wearing a shirt – if he’s strong,” Romijn says.

Since audiences first got to know her at age 12 as Gia on Full House, Sokoloff has had many memorable TV roles – Jody on Party of Five, Lucy on The Practice, Claire on Desperate Housewives – as well as turns on the big screen in Whatever It Takes, Dude, Where’s My Car? and Sugar & Spice.

She wed her husband, music composer Alec Puro, in November 2009 and the couple – plus pup Coco Puro – make their home in Los Angeles.

You can find Marla, now mom to 19-month-old daughter Elliotte Anne, on Twitter.

Hello everybody – hope you all had a fantastic summer!

First things first … I cannot believe you guys didn’t tell me how much fun having an 18-month-old is! This has been the most exciting age by a landslide so far.

Miss Elliotte is talking up a storm and making my stomach ache with laughter on a daily basis. Her personality has completely blossomed and she is quite the little lady now!

Over the past few weeks she has become completely obsessed with everything makeup and jewelry. Every time I turn around she is digging through my purse trying to find the right shade of pink to apply to her forehead. Apparently we’ve been doing it completely wrong all these years, ladies!

With no nudging on my part by the way, she has decided that she wants to be a total girly girl and has the purse (courtesy of Grandma Sokoloff) to prove it! I guess it’s time to hide the designer handbags…

For this month’s entry I thought we would revisit pregnancy. Some of us loved it, some of us hated it, but no matter how you feel about it, we all LOVE a celebrity doing it right? That way, they can get the swollen feet and the extra pounds while we sit back in our skinny jeans sipping champagne!

(Well, maybe not the last part but a girl can dream right?)

Meet my friend Rachael Leigh Cook, star of TNT’s Perception and mommy-to-be. If I told you how long Rachael and I have known each other it would make the two of us look old, but let’s just say we did a movie together at the start of our careers called The Baby-Sitters Club.

Marla Sokoloff Blog

Me a.k.a. Cokie Mason and Rachael a.k.a Mary Anne Spier – Everett

Rachael took some time out of her busy schedule to answer some fun questions about being knocked up. Hope you guys enjoy!

Marla: Congrats on your pregnancy – you look absolutely amazing! Sooo … how are you feeling?

Rachael: Ahaha thank you! One of the best things about gestation is that people tell you that you look great, even when it is far from true. That said, I don’t turn down a compliment so thank you!

I feel a-okay so far. I know that a lot of women have horrendously difficult pregnancies so I am feeling very lucky. (Knock on wood!)

Marla: Have you had any nausea or weird ailments that you weren’t expecting? I recently read an interview with you where you talked about the ever-present “pregnancy brain.” I hate to be the one that tells you that when the baby comes out, that symptom increases by about 450 percent and turns into something called “mom brain.”

Rachael: Oh nooooo!! That is terrifying! I am running on precious few brain cells these days as is. Other weird ailments include spontaneous crying (sad songs, news items, and stories – This American Life, The Moth, etc. just KILL me these days!) and serious nesting instincts are setting in. Cleaning out the garage and basement, getting rid of old stuff just feels great.

One other strange side effect is that everybody else – whom I know to be normal sized – now looks positively emaciated to me. Perspective.

Rockin’ her Children’s Place jacket – Marla Sokoloff

Marla: Stop. You are adorably pregnant! Speaking of, any cravings? Please tell me something gluttonous like Taco Bell to make myself feel better about my 50 plus pregnancy pounds!

Rachael: Marla, you tiny thing, I don’t want to hear it!! You are hilarious and braver than I for even looking at the scale when you were carrying. Yeah, after I gained 30 pounds I stopped checking and started stepping on the scale backwards at my appointments. I just don’t care how much I gain at this stage as long as I know that the little stowaway is okay. No need to have a number associated with this excellent experience.

As for the cravings, I was shooting for the first six months so craft service was my best and worst craving ally. Anything was available to me at any given time. Taking particular punishment were citrus fruits, especially pineapple, popcorn and apple fritters. Forget it.

Marla: Well at least you got your fruit in there! It’s very refreshing to hear an actress say they don’t care about gaining weight even while pregnant, so thank you for your candor. I completely agree, as long as your little chicken is healthy, that’s truly all that matters. I don’t know about you, but I was just happy to not have to diet for the first time in well … forever! What has surprised you the most about being pregnant?

Rachael: How directly it can put you in touch with your own mortality. Knowing that you are, in some ways, growing your “replacement” in a cosmic sense, can really make you feel like the transient, temporary being that we all are. Living in L.A. doesn’t help the illusion that we are going to be around forever too, so I think this process is likely part of a needed wake-up call.

Also, how it has made me totally obsessed with my husband. I know (from reading too much online) that he’s supposed to be getting on my nerves because of the hormones, but I have never loved him more. That’s the BEST.

Marla: Ummm okay, that’s the most ridiculously adorable answer ever! I love that and now I love your husband! You are going to love him even more when you see him rocking your little one at 3 a.m. while you “sleep” with one eye open. It’s pretty amazing how you can fall in love all over again with someone you have been with for so many years.

What has been your pregnancy “must have” thus far? For me it was my trusty pregnancy pillow that literally saved me every single night!

Rachael: Oh man, I have to get one of those! Thanks for the tip, sleeping just started to get rocky.

I would say that my favorite pregnancy item/accessory involved is the pants. Maternity pants are where it’s at. All other pants have been conspiring to waste my time for the last 33 years.

Marla: I couldn’t agree more. Once those bad boys came into my life, it took months to break up with them. Why don’t all jeans have a stretchy waistband anyway? Is there a favorite brand that you’ve been wearing?

Rachael: My faves are the Jessica Simpson for Motherhood brand that Pea in the Pod sells. People actually ask if they are maternity or not.

Marla: What part of motherhood are you most looking forward to?

Rachael: Marla, I have very short-term goals in this area! I will be very impressed with myself if I can just get this kid here into the outside world safely. I don’t feel qualified to pull this whole thing off, if I’m being honest. So it’s a clich but I have to say it, just having a healthy kid is all I want.

Marla: Not clich at all – and you are most certainly qualified! Are you finding out the sex or keeping it a surprise?

Rachael: We did find out the sex. We didn’t plan to initially but my husband and I have largely been apart for this thing, which was very difficult on several levels, so finding out the sex felt like a good way to make it all seem more real. I’m glad we did.

That said, we’re keeping it to friends and ourselves for now. I don’t know why. Oh yeah, because I’m a paranoid weirdo.

Marla: Fair enough. Will the baby’s name be North?

Rachael: Ha! Yes. No really, I respect that they went for a unique name, that takes guts. The same props go to you; Elliotte is such a beautiful name. Okay, I’ll stop comparing you to Kimye now.

Marla: No, compare away! I really see the similarities between us as well. In all honesty, if you want some unsolicited advice on the name front, I would say different and unique is definitely the way to go – but be prepared for the harsh criticism.

I just loved her name so much I didn’t think so many people would hate it! People don’t shy away from telling me just how much they hate it which always bums me out a bit. That being said, if I had to do it all over again, her name would still be Elliotte. Thank you for the compliment – glad you also like it!

Anything you want to ask me? I’ve been a mom for an entire 18 months now, so I’ve really got this Mom thing down. (Translation: I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I’M DOING.)

Rachael: Ha! So silly, you’re doing great. I can tell by the fact that you have the time to do this column. And regarding questions … YES!

1. Do I really need to go on a hospital tour? I’ve heard it’s not really necessary. Ditto birthing class. I am more of the, “Just give me the drugs and let’s do this” school.

Marla: Great question. We took a hospital tour – I liked the idea of seeing the room beforehand. Somehow it made it less stressful to know where to check in while I wasn’t hyperventilating and writhing in pain. (Don’t worry, that won’t happen to you. Your birth will be pain-free!)

I totally dropped the ball on the birthing class! I don’t think it’s a bad idea to be honest, but by the time I got around to calling, the classes were full and my little girl was coming within weeks so I just improvised if you will.

Rachael: I am signed up to do a newborn care class, lactation coaching and baby CPR, but is there anything else I’m forgetting?

Marla: Good call on ALL of those classes! I would have been useless without the newborn preparation class. I think that covers it! Keep that lactation coach’s card handy because you will most likely need a refresher course once the real subject has arrived. Elliotte and I had our struggles in that department and our coach was everything to us.

Ready for take-off – Marla Sokoloff

Rachael: Did you use a doula? Everyone says they are the best, but I am worried about it starting to get crowded. Plus, who wants a stranger in the room?

Marla: We didn’t use a doula. I really wanted it to just be my husband and me in the room, but that is a personal preference. Obviously if you were choosing to go without an epidural I would say you should have someone there besides your husband, just in case you cause him physical harm.

Rachael: So great chatting with you Marla and I can’t wait to meet your little girl in person! I can’t wait to make our kids watch The Baby-Sitters Club with us someday and try to make them understand that we were young once, too.

Marla: Totally! So great catching up with you Rachael. I look forward to hearing the big announcement!! If you need anything in the meantime or need me to come swaddle in the middle of the night, do not hesitate to give me a shout.

You can find Rachael on Twitter @RachaelLCook. And as always, Tweet me @MarlaSok.

Until next time,

Mariska Hargitay: Amaya Stands Up for Her Bullied Brother

Mariska Hargitay: Amaya Stands Up for Her Bullied Brother

Michael Loccisano/NBC

Call it Law & Order toddler edition.

During a recent trip to the park, Mariska Hargitay says her 2-year-old daughter Amaya Josephine served up some playground justice.

“My daughter is the boss of me,” Hargitay, 49, told PEOPLE at the Law & Order SVU premiere party on Thursday. “She is so strong, her independence inspires me.”

The tot’s qualities were recently put to the test when a playmate began bullying her brother, Andrew Nicolas, 2.

“Amaya went up to her and said ‘Stop it.’ She’s two years old and she goes, ‘Stop it. No!'” says Hargitay, who adopted Amaya and Andrew in 2011.

According to the proud mama, Amaya’s good deed didn’t stop there. “Then, the little girl pushed her and she didn’t push her back! It was so simple, but so beautiful to me,” says the actress. “My kids are my teachers.”

In a chilling premiere episode, Hargitay returns as detective Olivia Benson on the 15th season of Law & Order: SVU, airing Sept. 25 on NBC. Her character is abducted and abused in gruesome scenes that Hargitay says took real life courage to shoot.

“It was brutal,” she recalls of filming the heavy material. “Definitely the hardest, most challenging work I’ve ever done. It called on me to be brave.”

Lucky for her, bravery runs in the family.

Melissa Joan Hart Celebrates Tucker’s First Birthday

Melissa Joan Hart Tucker Birthday

It’s fun to be one!

On Saturday, Melissa Joan Hart welcomed 55 friends and family (including 35 kids!) to the backyard of her Connecticut home to celebrate her youngest son Tucker McFadden‘s first birthday – and the unbearably adorable afternoon went off without a hitch.

“This is the first party I’ve gotten excited about in awhile because I had the energy and the time to spend on it,” Hart, 37, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

With her teddy bear picnic theme in mind, the mom-of-three started planning the perfect party for her baby boy, turning to her latest obsession – Pinterest! – for inspiration.

“My new love is pulling together a theme by posting ideas on my boards and making it come true,” she says. “It was such an easy theme to work with and it’s all doable at home, which I liked.”

In an effort to keep it kid-friendly, Hart – who wore her Posh Mommy necklace for the big day – and her husband Mark Wilkerson served finger foods with a little help from Katie’s Kitchen, including mini PB&Js, mac and cheese bites and fruit skewers. Adults sipped on sangria while the younger guests enjoyed lemonade.

As the infant and toddler guests lounged on blankets adorned with stuffed animals in the grass, the older children enjoyed sack races, bocce ball, croquet, bubbles and time on the trampoline.

The Melissa & Joey star lightened her workload by checking off much of her to-do list the night before the big event. “The drinks can be preassembled and then put on ice, snacks can be divided out,” she says. “We kept it simple, but everything looked beautiful.”

The hardest part proved to be inserting the straws into her milk and chocolate chip cookie set up, which included glasses topped with the sweet treats. A dessert table offered an assortment of bear-shaped cookies stored in Itzy Ritzy snack bags and take-home Dine food jars from Zoli, where guests could stock up on goodies from the colorful candy buffet.

“I tried to keep it as trash-free as possible. Most everything was recyclable – the drinks were in mason jars, the cake was served on plates and with utensils the kids could take home after,” the actress says. (She used items from Skip Hop’s Zoo collection.) “Even some of the snacks were served in reusable bags.”

For the birthday boy’s big treat, Hart came across a cute cake on Pinterest and then asked a local bakery, The Cake Boutique, to tweak the design by adding a teddy bear topper to the tiered creation.

“Tucker had his own – it didn’t have any strawberry or Oreo pieces in it like the rest of the cake, so nothing to choke on and a little less sugar,” she shares.

Come time to blow out his birthday candles, Hart says, “Tucker was so confused! He was so mesmerized by everyone looking at him that he didn’t know what to do.”

She continues, “He just started clapping! Once everyone sang to him, Mark and I put his fingers in the cake. He was shy at first, but then figured out what to do and went crazy.”

After Tucker took his time taste-testing the dessert, his proud parents began to tidy up – only to realize the family dog had joined the cleaning crew.

“When he was done, we ran him inside to clean up and when we came back out, Copper had eaten the rest,” she says with a laugh.

While each child went home with a goodie bag filled with Mabel’s Labels and Funkins products, the family asked guests to forgo gifts. Instead, those that wanted could make a donation to Save the Children in Tucker’s name.

Now having celebrated the major milestone of a first birthday with each of her boys – Hart is also mom to sons Mason, 7 , and Brady, 5 – she admits she has yet to shed a tear during the fun festivities.

“I’m not a super emotional person, except when I’m pregnant. I’ve never been one to cry happy tears – even at my wedding. Mark had tears down his face and I was just so excited to actually get married,” she explains.

“I’m very in the moment, but both Mark and I really try to relish the baby days because we know how fleeting they are.”

Hart’s most recent reminder of Tucker’s fast-approaching toddler years include the coming addition of a few teeth – plus the possibility of showing his loyalty for the family’s favorite football team.

“He’s really into pointing, clapping and waving good-bye – those are the newest things,” she says. “My husband swears he can say, ‘Roll Tide’ (the University of Alabama’s rally chant), but I don’t know about that. Although he certainly hears it enough!”

The family of five has been enjoying their summer on the East Coast, but will return to Los Angeles for a few months once Hart’s show Melissa & Joey starts filming. Despite the temporarily bicoastal schedule, the actress makes it a priority to put her children’s childhoods first.

Melissa Joan Hart Tucker Birthday

Ali Gilliams

“Now that we have Tucker, everyone will come out. We tried with me going back and forth and it was just too much – it’s not an easy schedule. The boys like traveling, they adapt easily and make friends all over, but we really try not to let the business of life get in the way, no matter how hard it is,” Hart shares.

“They know Connecticut is their permanent home. I want them to have as much normalcy as possible, to feel grounded and grow roots.”

She adds, “I love that they go to great schools, take their classes, play with the neighbors and then sleep in their own beds at night. It’s important to me.”

Adding to her already full plate is the Oct. 29 release of Hart’s memoir, Melissa Explains It All, an autobiography she penned while pregnant with Tucker.

“I was trying to figure out what to do with my time, since I wouldn’t be on camera. I pitched the book, they were interested and I ended up spending most of my pregnancy with a computer on my lap typing up chapters between errands and naps,” she says.

Melissa Joan Hart Tucker Birthday

Ali Gilliams

Despite her good girl reputation, Hart reveals some of the pages are anything but, touching on the highs and the lows.

“I’ve led a very blessed life and that’s reflected in the book, but I am a little nervous because I seem to have this girl-next-door vanilla reputation – and I’m lucky to have it! – but I’ve definitely had my fun and made some mistakes, so I couldn’t leave those out,” she explains. “It’s a very honest book – there are shoutouts to everyone who has molded my life, both good and bad. I’m excited to see what people think.”

As she continues to achieve both personal and professional success, Hart – who says she’s “always wanted four kids” – plans to enjoy her fit form for just a bit longer.

“To be honest, I’m enjoying my body too much! I have so much energy lately, and I feel really lean. Plus, I don’t mind the compliments,” Hart, who regained her svelte shape with the help of Nutrisystem, jokes. “I worked too hard and I’m not ready right now to get pregnant.”

Josh Duhamel: Why Nobody Knows Our Baby’s Name

28 Oct

Josh Duhamel Diet Pepsi Baby Name

Stewart Cook/Startraks

Josh Duhamel is no stranger to the spotlight, but the ability to blend back in with the crowds still isn’t completely out of the question for the actor.

During a Diet Pepsi event on Friday, Duhamel put it all to the test as he manned the cash register, surprising customers who recognized his famous face.

“It’s an opportunity to really mess with people. There was a lot of people who didn’t [recognize me], but there was enough that did,” Duhamel, 40, told PEOPLE at the I Got a Diet Pepsi And… campaign in Los Angeles.

“I think sometimes the ones who don’t are the best ones. They don’t have a clue and you just strike up conversation and they may recognize you, but they don’t say anything.”

He continues, “This brand is a lot of fun – they found me to be the guy to be in here and screw with people and just have fun.”

Aside from his Diet Pepsi partnership, Duhamel has been busy with his acting and will soon wrap work on his upcoming film Strings, which he spent a week filming in Canada.

The short work schedule was “ideal” for Duhamel, who prefers to keep things close to home and his wife Fergie, who’s due in late August/early September with the couple’s first child.

“I really don’t want to be away from her right now. I definitely don’t want to be gone when the baby’s here,” he says. “But I feel very, very blessed to have a wife that’s going through this pregnancy so beautifully.”

As the future father gears up for daddy duty, he’s happily embraced the sweeter side of pregnancy – the cravings! – as Fergie attempts to maintain a balanced diet. “She’s really been good. I think that’s why she feels so good. She’s been eating really healthy,” he shares.

“She does [give into cravings] a little bit of course – she always has and she always will – but she stayed very disciplined because it’s all about what goes into her body goes into the baby.”

Duhamel is doing his part to stay physically fit, but the actor jokes that he’s given up on trying to achieve a brawny build. “I’m sort of in shape. I do exercise. I do work out, but I’m not like The Rock,” he says. “I try to stay healthy, I try to stay athletic and flexible, but I gave up trying to get big muscles years ago because it just didn’t happen.”

The proud parents-to-be just revealed that they’re having a boy, but they’re maintaining a code of silence when it comes to their name choice. According to Duhamel, even Fergie’s extended family do not know the moniker – and will not until baby’s big arrival.

“Some people may not like it, some people may think it’s really cool, but we don’t really care – that’s why we’re not telling anybody,” he explains. “We’re not even telling [Fergie’s] mom because we don’t want to hear anything about it. That way you don’t feel like you’re second-guessing yourself. It’s between us – it’s a sacred thing.”

One thing’s for sure: the little one’s name plays to both Duhamel and Fergie’s senses of style.

“[The name is] kind of traditional, kind of not. My wife is a little rock and roll, so she’s a little bit more daring in that department than I am,” he says. “We decided on a name that we both really love and I think will suit this child.”
