As recently reported, the autopsy for Cory Monteith was completed on Monday, and now the results have been released.

It’s been speculated that the death of the “Glee” actor, who recently completed a stint in rehab, was caused by a drug overdose, due to his long history of drug addiction… and as it turns out, the speculations weren’t far off the mark.

In the official report from the autopsy, the British Columbia Coroners Service reveals that Cory died of “mixed drug toxicity” after ingesting both heroin and alcohol:

“Post-mortem testing, which included an autopsy and toxicological analysis, found that Mr. Monteith, aged 31, died of a mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol.”

Cory was found dead in his hotel room at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel on Saturday after a night out with some friends.

Monteith, who played the beloved Finn Hudson on the FOX series, died in July from a toxic mixture involving heroin and alcohol.

The 31-year-old actor was remembered during a special tribute on the Primetime Emmys telecast last weekend.

“His death is a reminder of the rapacious and senseless destruction that is brought on by addiction,” co-star Jane Lynch said during the segment. “We remember Cory for all he was and mourn the loss of all he could have been.”

Glee season 5 premieres on FOX tonight with the first of two Beatles-themed episodes. The show’s third episode, titled “The Quarterback,” is scheduled for an Oct. 10 air date.

If you’re hoping for a sneak peek at Glee‘s upcoming 5th season, look no further. Adorable Darren Criss is here to give you a preview of what to expect when the hit series returns on September 26th.

FOX just released a new teaser for the premiere, narrated by the man behind the lovely Blaine Anderson.

This latest video teases the two-part Beatles episode, which appears to include plenty of Sue Sylvester deviousness and lots of Kurt and Blaine goodness.

A brief promo for the upcoming season was unveiled a few weeks ago, but it didn’t reveal much.

It was recently announced that pop star Demi Lovato will join the show for a guest arc as struggling artist Dani, a love interest for Santana’s (Naya Rivera) character.

The Glee cast began production on the tribute episode to their late co-star, Cory Monteith, on Friday. It is set to air on October 10th.

Cory Monteith’s Father On ‘Glee’s’ Tribute Episode: ‘I Think It’s The Right Way’

Cory Monteith Tribute episode, father speaks

As news made headlines this week that Cory Monteith‘s farewell on Glee will pay tribute to the beloved actor in a true-to-life storyline, no one is more pleased with the message than his family.

“I think it’s the right way,” Cory’s father Joe Monteith told Celebuzz.

“I had been unaware of Cory’s heroin use. I didn’t really know he was on any heavy drugs like that.”

Earlier this week FOX chairman Kevin Reilly revealed that the third episode of the hit show to air in September will directly address Finn Hudson’s drug abuse and departure.

“I do like they’ll be addressing the drug abuse,” added Joe. “It’s important to address this for all the young people out there and for parents to keep an eye out and watch your kids. It’s up to you to go and get aware and learn about it and watch out for it.”

Since Cory’s sudden passing nearly three weeks ago, Joe has received 3,000 letters from fans about how much his son meant to them.

“I haven’t gone through all of it, but I’ve cried about it and about how much he’s going to be missed and what an impact he had,” said Joe.

“I want to watch the show. By all means, I definitely want to sit down and watch because I know how much his cast loves him.

“I don’t know if it will [bring closure], but maybe a little.”

The episode will also feature drug awareness PSA’s with the cast and creator Ryan Murphy that will “speak directly with the audience.”

Cory’s father has a few last words he hopes help parents whose children may be struggling with drug addiction.

“Be aware and take care and keep an eye in your children,” he said. “Don’t let them out of your sight and get yourself drug wise so you can look out for the points that they show that you should be able to pick up if they’re using any drugs.”

Cory Monteith Private Memorial

Cory Monteith‘s Glee co-stars have been individually mourning his untimely death, but Thursday they celebrated his memory together at a private memorial.

“Today, Ryan Murphy and Lea Michele gathered the cast, crew and producers of Glee, along with colleagues from the network and studio, to share memories and music in an emotional celebration of the life of Cory Monteith,” FOX said in a statement obtained by CB!. “We thank the public for their continued outpouring of love and support as we grieve our friend and colleague during this difficult time.”

Monteith, who played high school quarterback and glee club member Finn, had been dating his on-screen love, Michele, off screen for over a year. He died of an accidental overdose involving heroin and alcohol on July 13.

Cory Monteith Was ‘In Great Spirits’ Two Days Before Death

22 Jul

Two days before he was found dead, Cory Monteith enjoyed “a quiet night with a lot of laughing” with one of his first mentors, Maureen Webb.

“He looked so good, so healthy,” Webb, the co-founder of Project Limelight Society, a Vancouver charity close to the actor’s heart, tells PEOPLE. “I hadn’t seen him look that good in a long time.”

Joined by Monteith’s manager Elena Kirschner, the trio dined at East of Main, a restaurant that supports the organization. “We ate a lot of food,” recalls Webb, noting no one drank alcohol. “We drank the rhubarb lemonade.”

Monteith initiated the dinner, telling Webb he wanted to get more involved the non-profit arts program for children that he had supported since its 2011 launch.

“I told him, ‘I remember everything we talked about when we first talked about this project. Now it’s happening.’ His face just lit up. He was in great spirits.”

Two days later, on Saturday, the 31-year-old Glee star’s body was discovered in his hotel room. No cause of death has been determined but police have ruled out foul play.

Cory Monteith: An ‘Enduring Sweetness’ on Glee

15 Jul

Cory Monteith arrived in our homes in 2009 in a happy burst of music, color and youth called Glee.

The news of his death in a Vancouver hotel room comes with the shock of someone dying at only age 31 (he seemed more like 22) – and also with the realization that he takes with him that music, color and youth.

Monteith was Finn Hudson, tall, handsome in a clean, square way. He looked like an old-fashioned teenage dreamboat dropped down in a school so up-to-the-minute in its heterogeneous mix he might have seemed out of place – like Ronald Reagan turning up in his brown suit to audition for the annual musical (Rent, say).

But Monteith had an open-faced quality that revealed, or betrayed, whatever emotion he was feeling (or singing) at the moment. He had an earnestness, an awkwardness, a sincerity that gave him a certain rawness – and an enduring sweetness.

The other performers on Glee tend to have the shiny, expert confidence that we want (and need) of a show that expects its characters to burst into song. Monteith never had quite that same edge: His definition was softer. He moved through the corridors of McKinley High at a slightly different lope, and that all lingers in the mind.

At least that’s how Monteith strikes me now – perhaps I’d already begun to adjust my ideas about him after he entered rehab earlier this year for substance abuse. These shadows filter into your perceptions, especially your perceptions of an actor still so early in his career – and associated with a show as bright as Glee.

Miss him already.
