Lady Gaga Announces Album Release Date And A Bunch of Other Stuff

30 Apr

Lady Gaga announced on her Facebook page Friday a whole bunch of release dates tied to her upcoming CD, ARTPOP.

In a statement that reads more like the essays I used to peer edit in college, Gaga said the album will officially hit stores on Nov. 11, with pre-orders beginning Sept. 1. The release will also include some type of Jay-Z-esque App, described only as a “musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion and technology.”

First up, though, will be a single, released August 19.

Here’s more from the release:

ARTPOP musically mirrors Gaga’s creative process as she passes through the medium of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint on her journey. The result, a ‘rage’ of electronic passion and fury, defining each artistic process from beginning to end, ARTPOP could mean anything.

Great.

Elton John: Miley Cyrus Is a ‘Meltdown Waiting to Happen’

3 Mar

With his music career spanning almost half a century long, Elton John knows a few things about the industry.

In his recent interview with The Australian, the British crooner says he can foretell celebrity disasters and controversial twerker Miley Cyrus is headed for a big one.

“I look at Miley Cyrus and I see a meltdown waiting to happen,” he tells the publication. “And she’s so young! But she’s got two records in the top 20, so who is going to stop her?”

And the former Disney starlet isn’t the only one who “can’t stop.” (Sorry, we couldn’t help it).

According to Sir Elton, the godmother of his children, Lady Gaga, is also bound for danger.

“With Gaga – who I love, she’s the godmother to our children – I’d like to be able to talk to her right now, but I can’t get through to her. And there are times when you have to listen,” he says. “When your persona begins to take over your music and becomes more important, you enter a dangerous place. Once you have people around you who don’t question you, you’re in a dangerous place.”

“Sometimes you try and reach out to someone and tell them they’re going to have a car crash, like I did with Ryan Adams, Ryan didn’t listen to me. He had the car crash, he recovered, and now he’s back and on great form,” he continues. “People either listen to you or they don’t.”

Given that Cyrus and her fiance, Liam Hemsworth, recently ended their engagement, maybe it’s time she starts taking a closer look at her life.

Lady Gaga Wore This Face Mask in New York City Last Night

2 Feb

In a fashion move that should shock no one, Lady Gaga stepped out in quite the ensemble in New York City on Saturday night.

Mother Monster, 27, was spotted leaving her apartment wearing a black-and-white mask, matching long hair, a cream top, blue pants and of course heels.

According to Gaga’s Twitter feed, the superstar spent the evening hosting a V Magazine New York Fashion Week party.

“Secret party was full of glamour + fury, thank you to many old and new friends for coming. To many more. Croissant is good for hangover,” Gaga wrote the next morning.

Here she is unmasked:

The “Applause” singer is due to perform on Good Morning America on Monday.

How Lady Gaga Prepared for the MTV VMAs: Nude Stretches, Back Rubs and Dipping Her Butt in Gold Glitter

10 Jan

Imagine Lady Gaga preparing for a performance. Are you picturing near-nude stretching and butt cheeks covered in glitter? Well, ding, ding, ding – congratulations, you guessed right!

Thanks to famed shutterbug Terry Richardson, we now know how Gaga as readied to open the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night with the live debut of her newest single, “Applause.”

Some of the prep was perfectly normal: she tried on stage costumes – including too many wigs, her face surrounded by white poster board, and her now-iconic “Applause” makeup – and rehearsed dance steps. But some was far from it: she stretched in nothing but a thong and knee-high boots, and she doused her butt in glittering, gold dust.

See for yourself in the gallery, above. But, really, is anyone surprised?

Lady Gaga ARTPOP Cover Art Continues Her Crazy “Living Art” Persona

12 Dec

Lady Gaga Cover Art

After much anticipation, the big reveal has finally been made. Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’ cover was unveiled on Monday via her Twitter along with a quote from her song, Applause: ‘One second I’m a Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me!’ ‘Koons’ referring to Jeff Koons, designer of the cover.

As probably expected, the cover is eye catching, artistic and generally just kooky. Although not her greatest cover, Gaga is definitely trying to make a statement with this and the whole album in general. At the iTunes festival back in the beginning of September, Gaga boldly stated how she “wanted to set [her]self free of this box they put you in, in pop music.” If this cover isn’t stepping outside of the box, I don’t know what is.

On the cover is a sculpture of the pop sensation herself, along with distorted images of Botticelli’s ‘Birth of Venus’ as a background, alluding to the idea that Gaga is in a state of ‘rebirth.’ With all this artwork on the cover, the sculpture and title of the album, it is fairly clear that Gaga holds this notion that she is a piece of artwork herself, not just her music. Art is about perpetual evolution and constant recreation, which is what Gaga seems to be engaging in as a pop artist at this stage in her career.

To be honest, this isn’t really something new and exciting for Gaga. All these ideas of rebirth and creation and art have always been a big part of her work. Just look at ‘Born this Way,’ for example. And as for this whole idea of living art… from the get-go, she has always been somewhat a walking piece of art what with her scandalous, and sometimes scary, outfits. But that’s what most of us love her for. The cover itself is definitely different and does step outside of the box, compared to her other album covers. But when has Gaga ever been inside the box?

Maybe if she toned down all the craziness and revealed a cover with her lying on the couch with a cup of tea in her pajamas then we’d really be impressed. But then it just wouldn’t be Gaga.

Here’s the cover art in full;
