Casey Kasem’s Wife Fires Back At Conservatorship Filing By Stepkids

The wife of legendary radio deejay Casey Kasem has challenged a conservatorship filing from his three children by filing papers of her own in court on Tuesday.

Casey’s kids took legal action last week after their stepmother, actress Jean Kasem, cut them off from visiting their father, who is suffering from advanced Parkinson’s disease.

Kerri, Julie and Mike Kasem filed for legal control of their father’s affairs after being refused visits and phone calls for over three months, but now their stepmother has fired back.

Jean claims that she’s been caring for her husband, who is also suffering from early onset dementia, and says that the conservatorship should be given to her.

According to TMZ.com, Kasem’s kids claim that they have power of attorney for their father, stemming from a 2007 court ruling; however, Jean claims that it was nullified in 2011 and she has control.

The former “Cheers” actress also says that her stepchildren sponged off of her and her husband for years and still haven’t repayed loans in the six figure ranges.

Pregnant reality TV star Kim Kardashian’s long-running divorce battle with NBA player Kris Humphries is set to go to trial on May 6.

The socialite, who is pregnant with boyfriend Kanye West’s child, filed to end her 72-day marriage to Humphries in October, 2011, and the former couple has been locked in a bitter legal wrangle ever since.

The sportsman, who is convinced Kardashian used their televised nuptials as a publicity stunt to boost her earnings, is seeking an annulment, but, in an interesting twist, his lawyer Marshall Waller quit this week after reportedly finding no proof of fraud to back up his client’s claims.

And on Friday Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon ruled Humphries had been given sufficient time to prepare his case and set a date for the divorce trial, according to TMZ.com.

Kardashian, who is due in July (and will be seven months pregnant during trial), will be hoping her divorce woes are behind her when she becomes a first-time mom.

Dukes Of Hazzard

The actor who played the inept sheriff in hit TV series The Dukes Of Hazzard has settled a legal battle with Warner Bros. executives over merchandising revenue.

James Best, who played Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane in the show, sued Warner Bros. bosses back in August 2011, claiming he was owed millions of dollars from the show’s merchandise, including watches, shoes and cars bearing his likeness.

The case went to court in North Carolina this month and according to TheWrap.com, Best has now settled the matter for an undisclosed sum.

In his complaint, Best argued he was owed “an amount reasonably believed to be to be between $5 million and $25 million for the early years (of the show) alone.”

The actor cited his Dukes of Hazzard contract which entitled him to 2.5 per cent of total revenue from products bearing aspects of his likeness.

Joe Pesci

Oscar-winning actor Joe Pesci has settled a lawsuit with producers behind a biopic of Mafia don John Gotti after suing movie bosses for downgrading his part.

The Goodfellas star signed a $3 million deal to play the gangster’s associate and childhood pal Angelo Ruggiero in Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father, alongside John Travolta and Kelly Preston.

He filed suit against Fiore Films in July 2011, claiming he had piled on weight to portray Ruggiero, only to be told he would be playing a smaller part.

His attorney, Jessica Trotter, confirmed on Monday that Pesci has reached a undisclosed out-of-court settlement with bosses at the production company.

Travolta will play Gotti in the film. The crime boss died behind bars in 2002.
