SINEAD O’CONNOR Writes Open Letter To MILEY CYRUS: You’re Being “Prostituted”

15 Jul

The latest Hollywood news reports that SINEAD O’CONNOR has written a heartfelt open letter to MILEY CYRUS, in which she told her:

You’re being “prostituted.”

AES 048353

After Miley Cyrus admitted in her recent Rolling Stone interview that her controversial “Wrecking Ball” music video-which features closeups of her face while singing and crying-was inspired by her idol Sinead O’Connor‘s award-winning music video for “Nothing Compares 2 U,” the legendary Irish singer has written an open letter to the young pop star.

And it wasn’t only to thank her for the reference.

In the hard-hitting letter, O’Connor also warns Miley about the dangers of letting herself be “exploited” by money-hungry music execs who just want her to twerk and grind against male performers, wear nipple pasties and get completely naked in music videos than showcase her real talents.

O’Connor writes “in the spirit of motherliness and with love”:

“The music business doesn’t give a sh*t about you, or any of us. They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think its what YOU wanted.”

The singer insists:

“You have enough talent that you don’t need to let the music business make a prostitute of you. You shouldn’t let them make a fool of you either. Don’t think for a moment that any of them give a flying f*ck about you. They’re there for the money… we’re there for the music.”

For her conclusion, Sinead even suggests a very clear first step for Miley. She says:

“Kindly fire any motherf-er who hasn’t expressed alarm, because they don’t care about you.”

You HAVE TO read her full letter below:

Dear Miley,

I wasn’t going to write this letter, but today i’ve been dodging phone calls from various newspapers who wished me to remark upon your having said in Rolling Stone your Wrecking Ball video was designed to be similar to the one for Nothing Compares … So this is what I need to say … And it is said in the spirit of motherliness and with love.

I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether its the music business or yourself doing the pimping.

Nothing but harm will come in the long run, from allowing yourself to be exploited, and it is absolutely NOT in ANY way an empowerment of yourself or any other young women, for you to send across the message that you are to be valued (even by you) more for your sexual appeal than your obvious talent.

I am happy to hear I am somewhat of a role model for you and I hope that because of that you will pay close attention to what I am telling you.

The music business doesn’t give a sh-t about you, or any of us. They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think its what YOU wanted … and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted, ‘they’ will be sunning themselves on their yachts in Antigua, which they bought by selling your body and you will find yourself very alone.

None of the men ogling you give a sh-t about you either, do not be fooled. Many’s the woman mistook lust for love. If they want you sexually that doesn’t mean they give a f-k about you. All the more true when you unwittingly give the impression you don’t give much of a f-k about yourself. And when you employ people who give the impression they don’t give much of a f-k about you either. No one who cares about you could support your being pimped … and that includes you yourself.

Yes, I’m suggesting you don’t care for yourself. That has to change. You ought be protected as a precious young lady by anyone in your employ and anyone around you, including you. This is a dangerous world. We don’t encourage our daughters to walk around naked in it because it makes them prey for animals and less than animals, a distressing majority of whom work in the music industry and it’s associated media.

You are worth more than your body or your sexual appeal. The world of showbiz doesn’t see things that way, they like things to be seen the other way, whether they are magazines who want you on their cover, or whatever … Don’t be under any illusions … ALL of them want you because they’re making money off your youth and your beauty … which they could not do except for the fact your youth makes you blind to the evils of show business. If you have an innocent heart you can’t recognise those who do not.

I repeat, you have enough talent that you don’t need to let the music business make a prostitute of you. You shouldn’t let them make a fool of you either. Don’t think for a moment that any of them give a flying f-k about you. They’re there for the money… we’re there for the music. It has always been that way and it will always be that way. The sooner a young lady gets to know that, the sooner she can be REALLY in control.

You also said in Rolling Stone that your look is based on mine. The look I chose, I chose on purpose at a time when my record company were encouraging me to do what you have done. I felt I would rather be judged on my talent and not my looks. I am happy that I made that choice, not least because I do not find myself on the proverbial rag heap now that I am almost 47 yrs of age … which unfortunately many female artists who have based their image around their sexuality, end up on when they reach middle age.

Real empowerment of yourself as a woman would be to in future refuse to exploit your body or your sexuality in order for men to make money from you. I needn’t even ask the question … I’ve been in the business long enough to know that men are making more money than you are from you getting naked. Its really not at all cool. And its sending dangerous signals to other young women. Please in future say no when you are asked to prostitute yourself. Your body is for you and your boyfriend. It isn’t for every spunk-spewing dirtbag on the net, or every greedy record company executive to buy his mistresses diamonds with.

As for the shedding of the Hannah Montana image … whoever is telling you getting naked is the way to do that does absolutely NOT respect your talent, or you as a young lady. Your records are good enough for you not to need any shedding of Hannah Montana. She’s waaaaaaay gone by now … Not because you got naked but because you make great records.

Whether we like it or not, us females in the industry are role models and as such we have to be extremely careful what messages we send to other women. The message you keep sending is that its somehow cool to be prostituted … its so not cool Miley … its dangerous. Women are to be valued for so much more than their sexuality. We aren’t merely objects of desire. I would be encouraging you to send healthier messages to your peers … that they and you are worth more than what is currently going on in your career. Kindly fire any motherf-er who hasn’t expressed alarm, because they don’t care about you.

Miley Cyrus’ Little Sis Noah Cyrus On Liam Hemsworth Joining The Family: ‘He’s Just Like A Big Brother’

8 Jul

Miley Cyrus has one of the most famous families in showbiz – and the star power is about to get even bigger when Liam Hemsworth joins the tight-knit crew.

And no one’s ready for another sibling more than Miley’s little sis Noah.

“I am so excited, I love Liam to death,” she told Celebuzz while walking the carpet with actor Tucker Albrizzi at the Do Something Awards Wednesday. “He’s just like a big brother to me, he’s always been there for me and I’m so excited he’ll be part of the family.”

So when it comes to wedding planning, you can count on her. But she only has one request (listen up, Miley): “I better be able to choose my dress!” she said.

In a family full of some serious triple threats, of course there was no doubt it was going to rub off on the 13-year-old.

Like the rest of the world that just can’t be tamed, big sister Miley’s dance moves (complete with plenty of twerking) even have Noah putting “We Can’t Stop” on repeat.

“I love it, I think it’s so fun. I’m always dancing in my room,” she confessed.

Miley’s No. 1 fan and her friends are so hooked on the hook that literally… well… they can’t stop, she said.

“I love to twerk. I’m twerking all the time,” Noah gushed. “My friends and I have twerk parties, like we’re obsessed with twerking!”

Miley Cyrus Teases Big ‘Bangerz’ Collaborations

Miley Cyrus talks bangerz collaborations

Miley Cyrus has landed some big names for her new album, but she’s not divulging all of them just yet.

The 20-year-old singer chatted with MTV on the set of her VMA promo shoot and dished about some of the musical heavy hitters set to appear on her upcoming project, ‘Bangerz’:

“I have a lot of features on my record,” Cyrus teases. “My favorite one, my biggest one I would say, I’m not revealing.”

So who, pray tell, is the “favorite” Miley’s referring to?

Ludacris, Pharell, Future, and Big Sean are all slated to be on the much-anticipated record.

But Nicki Minaj might also be hopping on the ‘Bangerz’ train, too. Producer Mike WiLL Made It recently tweeted the studio shot, below, saying: “Kik’n sh*t wit mileycyrus and @NICKIMINAJ . #MadeItMafia #Bangerz.” His caption? “Beauty and the Beast.”

Now on to that other rumored duet. There have been rumblings that the great Ms. Britney Spears lent her vocal stylings (and star power) to “Bangerz,” ever since a snippet of their alleged track leaked online earlier this week. Brit’s just about as big as you can get, huh? Listen, below:

Cyrus also talked to MTV about the process of making her edgy new album: “There’s definitely been times where I’ve had to fight for what I want on this record, but I think everyone is now starting to see that I had, like, a vision. I’m really excited about it. It’s gonna be crazy. It’s gonna be single after single after single.”

Miley Cyrus Defends Her Haircut in This Week’s Top Celebrity Quote

16 May

In a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, Miley Cyrus defended her controversial haircut in a way that was both slightly poignant and probably offensive. Here’s what she said:

Everyone said I was a lesbian [after doing it] but I’m like, ‘Being a lesbian isn’t a bad thing. So if you think I look like I’m a lesbian, I’m not offended. You can call me much worse I’ve been called much worse. Being a lesbian is a compliment more than what else they call me.

That was just one of the more memorable quotes heard around Hollywood (or, fine, Canada) over the last seven days. In the gallery, above, hear more from Beyonce, Bryan Cranston and Kristen Wiig in this week’s celebrity quotes roundup.

Cyrus Family Update: Tish and Billy Ray Are Back On, Miley Takes London

14 May

Billy Ray Cyrus is officially mending his “Achy Breaky Heart.”

That’s right. Miley Cyrus‘ parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus, are back on. E! News reports that the pair, who filed for divorce this past June, are trying to make their marriage work.

Billy Ray and Tish were married 22 years before announcing their separation, but it looks like they’re rekindling the flame through couples therapy.

“I spoke to Tish and she told me they both woke up and realized they love each other and decided they want to stay together,” Ken Baker of E! News reports. “They recently went into couples therapy, something they hadn’t done in 22 years of being together, and it’s brought them closer together and really opened up their communication in amazing ways.”

Tish posted a cute photo of her and Billy Ray on Instagram Sunday night, captioning the photo “Date Night.”

While Miley’s parents were out on the town, she was busy living life in Londontown to the fullest.

The “We Can’t Stop” singer was in the UK to promote her new music, and it seems like she truly enjoyed herself.

Miley partied with fellow pop singer Nicole Scherzinger, hit up Chanel, met some “Smilers,” and posed in some pretty risque outfits along the way.

Elton John Now Says Miley Cyrus is a “Terrific Girl”

2 Apr

Remember when Elton John said Miley Cyrus was a “meltdown waiting to happen?”

Yeah, scratch that.

On Wednesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 66-year-old musician actually defends the tongue-wagging princess.

“She’s a big supporter of the Elton John Aids Foundation… she’s a terrific girl,” Sir Elton tells DeGeneres.

“Her dad’s been in the business for a long time. [The VMAs] was a controversial performance that got everybody talking. And that’s what it’s suppose to do… she’s 18, or 19 or whatever,” he says.

Sir Elton also points out that since the VMAs, no one’s talked about any other artist.

“She has two records in the top 10. She has a number one single,” he says.

As for that interview with The Australian, in which he also called out on Lady Gaga (“I’d like to be able to talk to her right now, but I can’t get through to her”), Sir Elton brushes it off like an old jacket that doesn’t sparkle anymore.

“That was the Australian press. We know what they’re like,” he says.

Britney Spears’ ‘Work Bitch’ Music Video Is Starting to Look a Lot Like ‘Bangerz’

29 Mar

Great minds think alike.

Britney Spears has teased fans with an on-set photo from her “Work Bitch” music video shoot and – from the looks of it – Miley Cyrus has definitely rubbed off on the Princess of Pop.

In the behind-the-scenes snapshot, the world “bitch” is scrawled out in neon lights similar to cover of the “We Can’t Stop” crooner’s forthcoming album, Bangerz. (And both are certainly emulating a Miami Vice meets sleazy strip club feel.)

“My choreographer actually, when I was doing the rehearsals for this video, he was like, ‘Britney, you are not a sweet mommy in this video. You are nasty bitch mommy in this video,'” Spears recently told E! News of the shoot.

“When you start to feel the character, you start to feel silly, ’cause you’re like, ‘This isn’t me, I’m not like all like this,'” she explained, “moving all sexually and stuff like that, so as ‘mommy’ you feel really awkward doing that.

“[But] once you get out there and the camera starts rolling, you just kind of feel it out and you do it. But when I watch playbacks sometimes, I’m like, ‘Who do I think I am?! Who the hell do I think I am?!'”

For one, she’s Britney, bitch.

Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears’ Collaboration Has Leaked: Listen to ‘SMS (Bangerz)’

16 Mar

Sorry Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, but Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears now hold the record for this year’s most talked-about leak.

The two former Disney princesses highly-anticipated duet – regrettably titled “SMS (Bangerz)” – has surfaced online in extremely poor and fuzzy quality.

The song, which features Cyrus trying her hand at old school rap, basically sounds like a mish-mash of nonsensical Tumblr tags like #Catwalk and #SlickTalk over a sample of Salt-N-Pepa‘s “Push It”.

Produced by “We Can’t Stop” mastermind Mike WiLL Made It, the track will be featured on Cyrus’ forthcoming album, Bangerz.

Take a listen, below. Get the lyrics to the song on Directlyrics.

Elton John: Miley Cyrus Is a ‘Meltdown Waiting to Happen’

3 Mar

With his music career spanning almost half a century long, Elton John knows a few things about the industry.

In his recent interview with The Australian, the British crooner says he can foretell celebrity disasters and controversial twerker Miley Cyrus is headed for a big one.

“I look at Miley Cyrus and I see a meltdown waiting to happen,” he tells the publication. “And she’s so young! But she’s got two records in the top 20, so who is going to stop her?”

And the former Disney starlet isn’t the only one who “can’t stop.” (Sorry, we couldn’t help it).

According to Sir Elton, the godmother of his children, Lady Gaga, is also bound for danger.

“With Gaga – who I love, she’s the godmother to our children – I’d like to be able to talk to her right now, but I can’t get through to her. And there are times when you have to listen,” he says. “When your persona begins to take over your music and becomes more important, you enter a dangerous place. Once you have people around you who don’t question you, you’re in a dangerous place.”

“Sometimes you try and reach out to someone and tell them they’re going to have a car crash, like I did with Ryan Adams, Ryan didn’t listen to me. He had the car crash, he recovered, and now he’s back and on great form,” he continues. “People either listen to you or they don’t.”

Given that Cyrus and her fiance, Liam Hemsworth, recently ended their engagement, maybe it’s time she starts taking a closer look at her life.
