Spurs Transfer News: Clint Dempsey Joins Seattle Sounders For £6 Million

26 May

BBC Sport have confirmed that Clint Dempsey is on his way out of White Hart Lane and is moving back to his native United States.

The 30-year old has reportedly put pen to paper on a deal with Major League Soccer side Seattle Sounders, believed to be a four-year contract.

His new employers once had former Arsenal midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg among their ranks, and they currently have two familiar faces who Dempsey has played alongside before, in former USA goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann and ex Fulham striker Eddie Johnson.

Dempsey arrived at Spurs last summer from Fulham and scored 7 league goals in 28 games, but his performances were particularly notable in the UEFA Europa League where he netted two important goals against FC Basel in his side’s Quarter-final second leg.

However manager Andre Villas-Boas has signalled his intention to strengthen the Tottenham squad with the arrival of Valencia forward Roberto Soldado this week for 26 million on a four-year contract, leaving many to question whether the American international had a future with the club.

The fee for Dempsey is believed to be in the region of 6 million which would be an MLS transfer record, but club officials have yet to confirm the move for a player who may have also found opportunities limited with the Premier League club due to the arrivals of Paulinho and Nacer Chadli this summer.

The move would represent a significant coup for the Sounders who currently sit in 7th place in the Western Conference table, although the move may not be that much of a surprise after it emerged the Seattle coach spoke with Dempsey whilst he was on international duty for the USA, according to the Daily Mirror.

Their coach Sigi Schmid said: “I know Clint. I talked to him when he was here when he was playing against Panama.”

Prior to his switch across the capital, Dempsey spent five successful years with Fulham finding the back of the net 50 times in 184 league appearances after signing from New England Revolution in January 2007.

The forward who has been capped 99 times by his country is considered to have been one of the most successful US exports to have played in the Barclays Premier League since its inception in 1992.

Tottenham Hotspur released a brief statement which said: “We wish Clint every success for the future.”

Spurs Transfers: 5 Things Roberto Soldado Will Bring To The Club

24 May

Roberto Soldado

Having agreed a reported 26 million fee for the Spanish international striker, Tottenham Hotspur have all but completed the signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia (subject to a medical and agent fees being agreed etc).

He’s the striker Spurs fans have been begging for since Dimitar Berbatov departed for Old Trafford in 2008 and will be the club’s record signing – a record they will have broken twice this summer, following the prior arrival of Brazilian international midfielder Paulinho to White Hart Lane for 17 million.

The signing represents something of a breaking of the mould for Spurs, who are renowned for buying players young and developing them in to stars – see Aaron Lennon, Luka Modric and Michael Carrick for details – whereas Soldado is the finished article. At 28, he should be in his prime.

On that note, here are five things Roberto Soldado will bring to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club…

Spurs Transfer News: Inter Milan Want Sandro

Tottenham Hotspur’s Brazilian midfielder Sandro is reportedly a January transfer target for Italian giants Inter Milan.

“The Beast”, as he is affectionately known by the White Hart Lane faithul due to his tenacious and physical style of play, has found playing time hard to come by this season following an injury suffered in January – though he did start a Premier League game for the first time since his injury at Villa Park last Sunday.

The San Siro outfit are said to be readying a 6 million bid for Sandro – although whether that would even come close to Tottenham’s valuation remains to be seen – and will be monitoring his situation until the transfer window opens.

There seems to be no real reason why the ever-reliable midfielder won’t regain his place in the Lilywhites’ starting eleven but, if he can’t hold down his spot, he may look to force a move if there is genuine interest from Inter – particularly with the World Cup in his home country happening next year.

Spurs completed the signing of Sandro in March of 2010 from Brazilian club and Spurs’ affiliate Internacional but, given that the fee was around the 6m mark even then, Inter’s potential bid for the same sum of money seems unlikely to tempt a sale.

Do you think that Sandro should be looking for a move away from White Hart Lane? Would Inter Milan be a good potential destination for him? Let us know in the comments box below.

FIFA 14 Updated Cover – Gareth Bale In Real Madrid Shirt Replaces Spurs!

30 Oct

Fifa 14 Cover

The publishers of FIFA 14, Electronic Arts, have updated the box art of the upcoming football simulation title to feature Gareth Bale in a Real Madrid shirt.

The 24-year-old was formerly depicted in the colours of Tottenham Hotspur on the front cover of the game, the club he left for Madrid in a world-transfer record deal earlier this summer.

The change means there are two La Liga stars depicted on FIFA 14 s cover, with Lionel Messi of Barcelona starring alongside the Wales international.

For the first time ever in the long-running FIFA series, there will be no Premier League stars represented on the box art of the popular game.

Fifa 14 Cover Large

The change makes a lot of sense considering the necessity to keep things current, while EA had previously ruled out dropping Bale as their cover star following his switch to the Spanish capital.

Bale joined Madrid for a fee rumoured to have been around the 85 million mark, making him football’s most expensive player.

And though the cover of FIFA 14 has now been updated to feature him in the colours of his new club, fans can still see the former Southampton ace in a Spurs shirt in the official demo, which launched on PS3 consoles today.

fifa 14 is set for release in America on September 24th and in Europe on the 27th, and will launch on old and current gen consoles PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 and Xbox One.

Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham To Hijack Arsenal’s Demba Ba Bid?

8 Oct

Demba Ba

The fight for Demba Ba has a new contender as Tottenham Hotspur joned Arsenal, Newcastle and West Ham in the battle for the Senegalese striker’s signature, according to Sky Sports News.

Chelsea are demanding 3 million to pry Ba – who only joined from Newcastle in January – away from Stamford Bridge on a year-long loan.

For the longest time it was felt that Arsenal were in pole position for Ba’s signature, yet with the Gunners only willing to stump up 1.5 million as a fee the door has been left open for Newcastle, West Ham and overseas clubs such as Valencia and Napoli – currently managed by Rafa Benitez, Ba’s Chelsea manager last season.

Yet now Sky Sports have broken the news that Spurs have joined the hunt after being knocked back in their attempts to sign Zenit St. Petersburg’s Hulk – the Brazilian would’ve cost 10 million just for a year’s loan, forcing Spurs to look elsewhere.

Chelsea have announced that they have rebuffed bids from both North London clubs and have accepted terms from another Premier League suitor, but Ba may be dragging his heels until a move to a Champions League club materialises.

Tottenham’s entrance into the race came moments after West Ham appeared to be about to hjack Arsenal’s deal and bring Ba back to the club where he began his Premier League career.

According the BBC, the move was going to be partly funded by the sale of Ricardo Vaz Te.

Spurs Transfers: 5 Cheaper Alternatives To Roberto Soldado

8 Aug

Roberto Soldado

The 2012/13 campaign was another season of disappointment for Tottenham fans again as the Lilywhites missed out on Champions League football in their final Premier League game back in May.

The Londoners could only manage fifth place in the league standings and will once more be contesting the lesser Europa League when the beautiful game gets back underway come August.

Perhaps little wonder than that manager Andre Villas-Boas is looking at bringing in some extra firepower this summer, especially when you consider Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe are touching 30.

The Portuguese’s squad was left looking somewhat threadbare at times last season when it came to strikers, particularly when Defoe was injured back in February while Adebayor was contesting the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ultimately, it was up to Gareth Bale to rescue his side in the goalscoring department as the club’s leading scorer last season enjoyed yet another splendid season.

But Tottenham cannot rely on the Welsh Wizard forever and clearly at least one more striker is in need of being brought in to ease the burden placed on the shoulders of the double PFA Player of the Year Award winner.

That’s why Villas-Boas is looking at Valencia’s Roberto Soldado – though the Spaniard’s are playing hardball and are demanding Spurs meet their 30 million valuation of the forward.

Were Spurs to make such an offer, it would shatter their club-transfer record, and here, we profile 5 Cheaper Alternatives.

Spurs Transfers: Christian Benteke Deal Depends On Adebayor Sale

24 Jul

According to ClubCall.com, the potential transfer of Aston Villa’s Belgian international striker Christian Benteke to Tottenham Hotspur rests on Emmanuel Adebayor leaving White Hart Lane first.

Turkish club Besiktas are reportedly interested in the Togolese striker, but Adebayor has stated that he won’t be forced out of Spurs unless his wage demands are met.

The player, who was bought from Manchester City last year for 5.5m following a successful loan spell, has not performed as well for Spurs since his permanent switch and the club are keen to get his 100,000 a week salary off their wage bill to free up funds.

A 6 million fee is said to have been agreed between Spurs and Besiktas, but Adebayor’s personal demands are proving to be a stumbling block.

If and when Adebayor moves on, Spurs will make their first official approach for Christian Benteke with a bid of 20m. Aston Villa are said to be demanding 25 million however, but Spurs will hope to bring that price down.

Benteke had a fantastic debut season in the English Premier League, scoring an impressive 19 goals in 37 league appearances and 23 goals in all competitions. He has played 14 times for the Belgian international side, scoring 6 goals, and would add to Spurs’ growing Belgian contingent which already includes Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele, while the club are also said to be interested in compatriot Nacer Chadli of FC Twente.
