5 Most Badass Women Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe

With every new entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, discussions emerge regarding the films’ depictions of women. The recent release of Thor: The Dark World has surprised and pleased some by apparently passing the famous Bechdel Test, which means that the film featured at least two women talking to one another about something other than a man.

This female fan loved the women in the latest Marvel film, and while the MCU is not perfect in its portrayal of women, it has given us a number of awesome and amazing females to admire and be inspired by. In order to celebrate this, I’ve decided to create this non-exhaustive list of the top 5 badass women of the MCU. Please note, this article contains spoilers for the recent Thor: The Dark World – you’ve been warned!

Honorable Mentions: Frigga/Darcy/Maria Hill

While these three women didn’t make it in my top 5 list, they are all crucial and awesome additions to the MCU. Frigga is the calm and loving mother of Thor and Loki, and isn’t afraid of picking up a sword and beating down on some frost giants and dark elves, either. It’s also implied that she is the one who taught Loki everything he knows about magic – in Thor: The Dark World, she outwits the evil Malekith and totally shrugs off his uninspired insult of “witch.” The deleted scenes of Thor also show an intelligent woman who is, quite frankly, the only member of the Asgardian royal family who sees things clearly and rationally.

Darcy tends to split fans; people either love her or hate her. I think she’s one of the few totally genuine characters in the MCU. She doesn’t bring anything to the table except humour, understanding, and authentic friendship for Jane Foster. While her character is literally meant to be the audience’s double in the MCU (“Wow, look at Thor! What’s Mjolnir? What’s S.H.I.E.L.D.? Give me more exposition!”), she is unique in her incredible ordinariness. In a universe filled with over-the-top characters that tend to overreact, it’s so refreshing to have a young woman who is smart enough to just pick up the phone and call the police when her friend is in trouble.

Poor Maria Hill also tends to raise the hackles of Marvel fans. Look, she can be annoying in the comics, but the Maria Hill of The Avengers was calm, cool, and collected. She never shied away from her responsibilities, she was good at her job, and she held her own in a room filled with gods, rage machines, super spies, soldiers, and a smartass billionaire with daddy issues. It’s implied by her constant presence at the helm of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier that a great deal of the whole operation rests on her shoulders, but she never freaks out. She’s also one of the few characters to raise her eyebrow and question our heroes: “When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?” I personally think we need more skepticism in the MCU.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Plans To Thwart Vanity Fair Article Falls Flat! Magazine Still Publishing Exposé!

We have a feeling Gwyneth Paltrow is about to be VERY angry!!

A little while back, the Goop master threw a hissy fit about an unflattering article Vanity Fair was planning to run on her.

In fact, she so upset with the mag that she emailed all her friends ordering them not to talk to VF‘s team.

Unfortunately for Gwynnie her plans have backfired, because rather than discouraging Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter from publishing the story, he now feels obligated to move forward with it!

Carter recently opened up to The Times Of London about the dramz, saying:

“We started a story on her. We have a very good writer and it’ll run… she sort of forced my hand.”

Even worse for Gwyneth? Vanity Fair won’t let her or her people have final approval of the article before it goes to print!

Everyone already knows that Miz Paltrow isn’t exactly a joy to work with, so we can only imagine the tantrum she’ll throw when the article finally surfaces.

Graydon Carter better have a safe place to hide!

But then again, if the article contains the kind of juicy dirt we keep hearing about, maybe SHE’s the one in need of a hideout. LOLz!

GWYNETH PALTROW looked sexy and classy in a black leather dress at the “Boss Nuit Pour Femme” Fragrance Launch in Madrid, Spain earlier this week.

Gwyneth is a certified head turner on the red carpet, whatever she may be wearing-even if it’s something as simple as a black leather dress.

The actress, who was named PEOPLE magazine’s Best Dressed Woman of 2012 last month, was simply fabulous in a short-sleeved leather dress by Hugo Boss, which she paired with black Jimmy Choo pumps.

As for hair and makeup, the blonde beauty went with silky locks and minimal makeup.

Miley Cyrus’ Favorite Diet Linked To Weight Gain: 10 Celebrities Who Have Gone Gluten Free (GALLERY)

Miley Cyrus, Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow beware, your diet could cause you to pile on the pounds.

The increasingly popular gluten-free diet is followed by a whole host of pin thin celebrities but new research shows it could cause more harm than good when it comes to whittling down their waistlines.

While going wheat free is necessary for those suffering from Celiac disease – a serious gluten intolerance – it’s A-list following which also includes Lady Gaga and Zooey Deschanel has caused it to become a fad fat fighter too, but in reality it could be doing just the opposite.

“A gluten free diet is designed for those with the medical diagnosis of gluten sensitivities and reactions. It was not designed to be a weight loss program,” celebrity nutritionalist and registered dietician Lisa DeFazio told Celebuzz. “Do not just follow the diet because Miley and Victoria are doing it!”

Miley, 19, is just one star who has gushed about the wonders of a wheat-less diet after claiming she had a “gluten and lactose allergy”.

“Everyone should try no gluten for a week,” she posted on her Twitter page. “The change in your skin, physical and mental health is amazing.”

8 Photos But DeFazio says people should not just jump on the gluten-free bandwagon for the sake of it, especially since it can cause weight gain.

“Gluten free foods may have other ingredients such as fat that you do not need,” said DeFazio. “It is a strict diet and if you are not gluten sensitive or have Celiac, you are putting yourself through unnecessary restrictions.

“Unfortunately in Hollywood, celebs announce their diet plan and everyone wants to do it, but these celebrities are not medical experts so do not follow their lead without seeing the REAL qualified experts to see if you really need to restrict your diet!”
